Why Me? Relation

     I agree with Nishal on the theme "Why Me?" can be related to "Picking Cotton." For Jennifer Thompson, she was wondering why me? She lived well and always had plans for herself. She was smart, successful, had a boyfriend, and was going somewhere with her life. Why was she raped? Why was she chosen? Why her? Everybody has been put in situations where they wonder, why me? That's just something that is part of life. Why does something so terrible like that have to happen to anyone? It shouldn't, but it has been done. To many people in the world in fact. Many harmless people have had bad things happen to them, including Jennifer.
     In Ronald Cottons case of course I believe this theme corresponds. Why him? Why was he chosen? Was there even evidence to prove he raped Jennifer? Why out of everyone in the world was he chosen? Ronald knew he didn't commit the crime, but nobody else knew that and nobody else would believe him. Jennifer was superior to him. She was a young white woman traumatized from this dramatic event, while he was a black man who had been convicted of other crimes in the past. So why not him? Why not just pick any random black man that "looks like they could have raped Jennifer or look like they're up to not good?" In life people are put in tough situations that nobody wants to be in. It's how you handle the situation and the outcomes that you bring upon it that affect you. People ask "why me?" all the time.
