The Parallel Between Central Park Five and Picking Cotton

During class we discussed why it was that we saw Central Park Five in particular, I think that the reason this movie was chosen is because it shows strong parallel to the book we are reading in class, Picking Cotton. Both are essentially about being wrongfully accused of rape and the consequences of that. The only main difference is that in the book, we get to see more of the victim of rape point of view. Both the book and the movie showcase what it is like to be trapped in circumstances that cannot be helped. They both explore the institutionalized racism that occurs, we get to see how much fear drives the decisions we make. Both explore the complexities of human nature and what it means to be truly free.
