Welcome to the blog for Prof. John Talbird's English 102 class. The purpose of this site is two-fold: 1) to continue the conversations we start in class (or to start conversations before we get to class) and 2) to practice our writing/reading on a weekly basis in an informal forum.

Priscilla Ortiz- My reaction to the movie we watched about Cancer
Priscilla Ortiz

The movie we watched during class recently about cancer, was shocking to me in various ways. It was shocking to know the methods doctors used back then in the middle of the 50 60s. It was so shocking to know that many of these methods were used as tests to people to see if they actually worked. Me personally, I would never put or want to watch someone deal with the horrible pain these treatments cause. Over 1.7 million people die and continue to die from this horrible disease I and everyone wished never existed. Anyone can suffer this disease. Cancer doesn't discriminate regardless of age, skin color, if your married or even if you have a family. Cancer attacks in any way in various forms because there is various types of cancer. In the movie, this Adorable 17 month year old baby girl suffers from cancer that is attacking her central nervous system along more so the spinal cord. She has to go through painful chemotherapy and radiation in the brain. Its really sad and horrible to see a baby have to go through this type of situation and therapy. This baby is going through a lot at her short age, and watching the parents go through the pain is horrible because no one would expect to have to fight with their child such a horrible disease. At least now we have methods in science that aren't as painful and horrifying as those methods back then since the new machinery was invented. Back then, people would suffer horrible burns on their skin, now the doctors are not experimenting on their pacients and are more careful on how to treat their pacients and what to do. Cancer is a disease we all want to find a cure to sooner or later, because this disease is taking away everyone we love and care for. We all wished that cancer did not exist, that cancer didn't attack anyone regardless of their age and that the pain it causes would not be around the person fighting it or their loved ones. Its unbelievable how many people today have to deal with this disease and many millions of people don't get the opportunity to fight this disease because its to advanced and theres nothing to be done so it can fought and try to win against the disease. Many know about the disease when its to late and others after fighting cant win the fight because no other treatment will work for them.
