Response to "The Rape"

I think Jennifer looked at her rapist to get a visual of his face, so if she survived this incident she can be able to describe what he looks like to the police. Closing her eyes and waiting until it was over would give in to him. If she was looking at him and listening to what he was saying clearly, she can be thinking of ways to escape and fight back. As a reader, listening to Jennifer tell her story was heartbreaking. To know these things actually happen to poor innocent people is scary and gives me an unsatisfying feeling. I really felt for Jennifer as she was explaining how it was happening to her. Actually the thought made me want to just close the book. What i loved was how Jennifer stayed strong. How she continued to come up ways to fight back and not just give in. I think its necessary for readers to hear about the rape in such excruciating detail because it gives you sense of being in that persons shoes. Although its not something i really want to hear happening or try to put myself in that persons shoes, the way Jennifer worded her experience and in such a detailed way, let myself feel how she must have felt. Hearing about this rape was devastating especially hearing how perfectly set she planned out her life and how good of a person she was. Something like this should never happen to anyone, no one deserves to go through such a horrible experience, and i feel for every person that has.
