   Picking Cotton is a very realistic memoir.  This memoir written from two perspectives is something that happens a lot in the real world.  Many times a crime is committed and the person that gets convicted of the crime is not the person who committed the crime, and the person is unfairly convicted of a crime he/she didn't commit.  The person who is convicted can be wrongfully convicted of the crime can serve a jail sentence wrongfully when the person is innocent.  However sometimes, the person convicted of a crime is the person who did commit the crime and he gets a sentence.  One question while reading the book came to mind is, who raped Jennifer if it wasn't Ronald Cotton? and why did she continue to say it was him if it really was not?  If it wasn't him he could be free but Jennifer continued to point the finger at him saying it was him. Even the police didn't believe him when he said he didn't commit the rape he was being accused of?  The police did not believe him and put him on several charges to the sentence being life plus 50 years.  He was wrongfully convicted of a crime he didn't commit, or as the jury thought, did he really commit the rape and was he trying to say it was someone else who did it?  Many times this occurs people try to cover up what actually occurs so they can be let free. Being convicted of the crime he didn't commit Ronald tried to constantly write to his lawyers to find proof and send it to them so he can get a court date to try and get free from a crime that he didn't commit.  Jennifer only had her sister for support and the other person who had gotten raped testified that she was raped by Ronald Cotton.  But Ronald, only had the support of his parents and family because thats what family do, support each other and Ronald had the support of his sick mom through this rough time of his life and to help prove that he didn't commit the crime and that he was innocent all along as to what he had told police from the first day.
