Welcome to the blog for Prof. John Talbird's English 102 class. The purpose of this site is two-fold: 1) to continue the conversations we start in class (or to start conversations before we get to class) and 2) to practice our writing/reading on a weekly basis in an informal forum.

My collection vs. Picking Cotton

For my collection my topic is family and by reading "Picking Cotton" I can really relate to Jennifer. In my collection I will cover how family members use to be so close but now are so very different and distant, along with other traits of family today. In "Picking Cotton" the unfortunate event as a rape happened to Jennifer, a college student living on her own. She has family and I can tell so far in my reading is a very "close family", well use to be. After her rape her family seemed distant and different. No one disgusted what happened or how she was feeling. It's sad really because Jennifer is so traumatized, and she don't even have the comfort of family to ease her mind she's basically on her own. Am very happy about the common read this semester because it ties in so well with my collection.
