Who is Clarence and why has he been put in the Tower (the dudgeon)? Why does Richard send the two killers to kill him?
Clarence is Richard's brother and the next in line to the thrown. He is thrown into the tower by Richard himself. Clarence was technically put there because Richard convinced the other powerful people the Clarence was a traitor or was about to do something bad. Richard sends two people to kill Clarence because if he is dead then Richard will be the next one to inherit everything. Since his dad is already dying it's only a matter of time before his dad dies and his brother was just one of his obstacles. I think that Richard should also take down any advisors that he has or people close to the king because you can never fully succeed with people that are just bellow by a level. People will always oppose but people that don't have power are less of a threat.

Just a few things that I want to clear up: Actually, Richard doesn't put Clarence in the Tower, their brother, King Edward does b/c there is a prophecy that "G / Edward's heirs the murderer shall be" (lines 39-40) and Clarence's first name is George (it should be noted that Richard is Duke of Gloucester). Richard pretends to be outraged by this even as he sends assassins to kill Clarence. The shock, and the belief that he is responsible for his brother's death, kills the sickly King Edward.
