Tribute to children of the town died for France 1914-1918

In the poem Ghost Cleans Himself Up Before Visting the Monument of the War Dead  Figurative language is used like simile where the line is "as much mystery to you as bete noire", and bete noire means that a person or something that is dislike. When one dislikes someone or something you don"t anything about it or only know about it a little. With a mystery, none truly knows what happened or what is going. The poet is making the connection of mystery and disliking someone...
